Going Green!
IN THE NEWS: "Seattle--A man who says he bought moldy cookies in the King County Jail is suing the county for pain, suffering and emotional distress. Moses Wiggins, 41, said he didn't notice the mold until he had eaten half a bag of cookies." Read more here.
After my aerobic class yesterday(I'm still in boring t-shirts and shorts), I decided to do something "nice" for my body since all I originally had planned was returning back home and having lukewarm coffee and a chocolate TastyKake.
(I didn't think that was appropriate after such a great workout) So I stopped off at a new smoothie place downtown to get myself... well, a smoothie.
I confess, I walked in and was a little intimidated by the huge blackboard of choices. Realizing the guy behind the counter is losing patience with me, I asked him what he thought their best smoothie was. His reply was "They all suck."
I laughed. (Although now that I think about it he might have been serious.) But anyway, the woman behind me told me to go for the "Green Machine". Hmmm. The sign said it had spinach, blueberries, banana, and I think bee pollen. Sounded like something up my alley so I ordered one.
It was delicious!
You couldn't taste the spinach at all. Not that I don't like spinach, but I don't necessarily want to drink it--or any vegetable for that matter. Let's face it, I'm not the kind of woman who hits herself upside the head because she could have had a V8. In fact, if I ever drank a V8, I'd hit myself in the head and worry how I'd get the taste out of my mouth.
But anyhew, after I spent $5 and change (Grrr) on this smoothie, I decided to try making them at home. This morning I'm making a spinach, mango, banana smoothie. (I'm going to add my flax seed to it too) My friend has been making these for years so she assured me it would be yummy.
I'm trying to add more raw vegetables in my diet--for vitamins and whatnot--so I figured this would be a great way to do that.
Have you ever had a spinach smoothie? Do you want one?

Nope, never had a spinach smoothie, but I love V-8 Fusion. It's a mixture of fruit and veggies, and the Tropical (orange) one is fantastic. As you said, it's a great way to get more veggies into my diet.
Definitely let us know how that turns out - my idea of making smoothies involves vanilla ice cream and any alcohol that resembles a fruity color or taste! :)
I have a juicer (one of those mammoth things Jack LaLane sells on TV) and I have to say that fresh juice made from all kinds of veggies and fruits is pretty awesome. My main stay is carrot and apple.
Hmmmm...spinach smoothie. Definitely sounds interesting. I'm not a green vegetable eater, but I guess if you couldn't taste it...
My mother in law drinks turnip juice. Can we say GROSS?!
I just bought myself a Magic Bullet to make smoothies and never thought to add veggies. Gonna try that for sure. I wonder if there's a way to hide the green of the spinach so that I could get my kids to eat it?
Never had a spinach smoothie. But Hubby and I used to juice. (We need to start again.) Anything with carrot or apple tastes great!
