The Raw Deal

MENTAL STATUS: "Exhausted". Thanksgiving is over and the perfectionist in me is still trying to deal with what happened.

I'll be honest.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family. Good food. Lots of laughs. All that was great, but I'm still a little miffed over what happened. You see, I, uh, had a slight wee problem with my turkey.

It was raw.

Yep. Although, raw may be exaggerating, but it definitely was...well, undone. I almost called the turkey hot line.

I'm not exactly sure what happened. I followed the Food Network directions, it looked done, and my meat thermometer said it was done. But as my brother was carving it, he looks up and says, "This thing is still bloody."

WHAT????? (Talk about STRESS! )

The only thing I can think of is that because I bought my turkey late, it didn't have enough time to defrost. Oh well. Live and learn. All I can say is I'm so glad I had my double oven this year. It was a real life saver. (And an understanding, supportive family helps, too)

Anyhew, I don't plan on doing much today. I deserve to relax. Maybe I'll read, maybe comb my hair, maybe get some Christmas decorations out, and maybe even go to the gym.

How was your Thanksgiving?

I'm about to head over to the assisted living home my grandpa is in to take him breakfast from McDonalds - his favorite. After that, I'm vegging.

That's really weird about the bird. If it were still thawing, the thermometer shouldn't have popped. Glad your family was understanding.

We just came back from Wal-Mart. I don't understand all of this crap the news reporters are talking about people not shopping this year. It was insane! There were twice as many people as in previous years. But then again, it was Wal-Mart. There was NOBODY at Target. :) Bill and I got there at about 4:45, got what we wanted, and were back home by 6:30. Not bad...

I'm vegging out today and playing with my new MP3 player. I'm giving my old one to my granddaughter, so I'll be switching music and trolling the Net for more.

Poor you! Raw bird is yucky.

I know how you feel. One year, I brined the bird. Yuck. Yuck, yuck, yuck. It was overbrined and barely edible. We couldn't even have leftovers.

Humiliating. :( You want to make THE meal people remember forever, but because it was good, not because it tasted/looked like you were trying to poison people.

Happy vegging. You deserve it!

Sorry about the turkey. That's wonderful you have a double oven.

Hugs! We deep fried our turkey and my mom didn't think we needed that much oil...we had to make a mad dash to 3 different stores to find more peanut oil. Then when we added the oil...lowered the temp and took an additional 20 minutes to cook. We had a nice visit though. Glad your day turned out well despite the delay!

Oooh, sorry that happened, Jenn. Next time, remember 30 min per lb for defrosting in cold water (with wrapper on). Then, 25 min per lb for cooking (at 325 deg), and if you're like me, add an extra 30 min to the total. (It won't be dry.)
