NOT a Happy Camper

MENTAL STATUS: "Distressed". See below.

So my hubby dropped another bomb on me the other day.

Yeah. Not the skiing bomb, but the camping bomb. (Oh, joy)

We are now the proud owners of three pairs of water shoes, a 6 person 6ft tall tent, an air mattress, a large cooler, three sleeping bags, and a lantern.

(Um, apparently, he's pretty serious about this.)

The thing is I'm not against camping itself. I've been camping with my friends in Montana many times. But, of course, they're professional campers out there. They own their own RV. Plus there were bathroom facilities. A shower is not an option where we're going. I was also told the other day that we'll only have a Porta Potty. They'll have lights in them, though. (Oh, joy again)

I'm not saying a word. I know my hubby and the kiddo will have a blast, and I don't want to be a killjoy.

(But little does my hubby know that my gracious attitude is part of his Father's day gift) :)

Do you like camping?

Camping is my idea of the ultimate torture. I'll be praying for you! :<)

Stop by my blog when you get a minute.

What did you do to deserve this punishment? You poor thing. I feel your pain. I really, really do.

My idea of camping is like a Motel 6. So, NO, I do NOT like camping. I've done it, but I certainly do not like it. Your non-complaining attitude is ADMIRABLE, girl!

Camping is so much fun, at least in moderation. I don't usually go for more than 2-3 nights at a time. And you absolutely must have a big tent. Nothing is worse than trying to cram bodies into an undersized tent. Bug spray is also a must have. And don't forget to pick up all rocks and sticks before setting up the tent. Your back will thank you later! :)

Maybe hubby can take the kids and you can have a Mom weekend! My husband recentlly took the boys camping so the girls and I had a girl weekend! I was happy for them, AND definitely happy that I could be home watching chick flicks and eating pizza with my girls!

Do you like camping?

Yes, if it comes with a fully equipped bathroom, A/C, room service & wifi.

No shower? A port-a-potty? OMG, I hope your husband realizes what a saint you are to be going along with this. My idea of roughing it is staying at a really skeevy motel.

Yeah, camping can have its inconveniences, but sometimes there's just no other way to see stuff. Food always seems to taste better outdoors, you're guaranteed a nice sunset, and the air is so clear and fresh. Either way, though, hope you have a good time!

I used to like camping...when I was young and didn't have babies to lug around. Right now the idea of camping in anything but an RV is somewhat horrific to me. hehehe

Enjoy your camping! ;)

Ha!

My hubby likes to tell people that my idea of "roughing" it is a hotel that doesn't have a concierge. LOL!

Right now my mantra is "it's only one night" LOL!

I love camping, as long as the campground is right on a beach and has showers. We go to Muskegon, MI (right on Lake Michigan) every year and we tent. It's a blast! Of course, we have comfortable cots, so that helps.

I can't wait to have smores again. Have fun!!

I actually enjoy camping. The last time we went with my sister-in-law and she stayed in the outhouse for an hour (at about 2 in the morning) because she thought she heard bears. HILARIOUS!

Oh, Jennifer. What can I say?
Think how grateful you will be when you return home to your own potty.

I don't think men understand why things like a private toilet and sleeping in a real bed, are important to us.

All I can say is, you are racking up some BIG points with God. I would cash in on them in a rough moment in the future!

Tell us the dates, and we will have a prayer party for you, dear.

Hey, maybe Jesus will come back before it happens! That thought always helps me...

Love, Jen

Love the new design and I can come back again. I felt like I was locked out and I'd never had a chance to comment on anything!

Did you get air mattresses? Cuz, we made that mistake one year and thank God there was a Walmart near because we could barely move in the morning after getting very little sleep.

I actually miss camping. We haven't gone in a couple of years. What I liked about it was that we were just there, without the tv, without the phone and I enjoyed sitting by the fire, listening to the crickets and the occassional owl or bull frog and just talking with the kids and my guy. It was an adjustment, but you might find you'll actually enjoy it.

You'll have to let us know how it went. '-)

I love camping. What's a little dirt?

What I don't love is the preparation, which has gotten more and more involved for us over the years. We've got two kids now (thankfully 14 and 9 now, so much less maintenance than the early years!) -- and the last several years, we've had friends join us. Setting up the lists of who brings what has become a bit like planning D-day at Normandy....

But BEING there ... ahh. Take deep breaths of the fresh air. Take a camera, and preserve the beauty. And if you're going to have trees around, by all means, take a hammock!

I've never RV camped. (nose in the air)

Where are you going?

I LIVED camping for three years as a kid when my parents decided to "get back to nature" and we had no power, no running water, NO FREAKING HOUSE -- I don't do it anymore. Ever. Period. My DH, an avid camper, knew this before we got married.

He camps with his family sans wife, or he doesn't camp.

Good luck. I'll be here with my shower, refrigerator, stove, laptop and electric lights feeling sorry for you... lol...

I love camping and hiking. Maybe there will be a stream you can jump in with your bathing suit and a bar of soap? I don't like camping so long that my hair gets greasy. A shower, even a cold one, works for me! Trying finding that stream!
