Cool Food Link!
MOOD STATUS: "Productive". Checking off a lot on my "to be done" list this week. :)
Somebody sent me this link and I thought it was neat. Especially because I'm one of those people who obsess over shelf life dates. What do "sell before" dates really mean? I mean, if I buy it on that date how much longer do I have to eat it? Ugh.
I just want a simple "do not eat beyond this date or you will go blind" sticker. Very simple. Is that so hard?
Well, this site answers all your worrywart questions about food and storage: http://www.stilltasty.com/
Here are some sample questions answered there:
Can You Safely Drink Milk After the Sell-By Date?
Are Eggs Still Safe After the Expiration Date?
Should You Store Bread on the Counter or in the Fridge?
I Left Pizza Out Overnight - Is It Still Safe to Eat?
Should You Eat Steak That's Turning Brown?
Does Olive Oil Last Longer if You Store it in the Fridge?
Is Bottled Water Still Safe To Drink After the Expiration Date?

You're funny! I might figure out these later. My question is for sour cream. LOL
Also, my husband told me butter will spoil if left out. I was like, what???
These are all the questions I need answers to. Especially the milk question, I am not a heavy drinker except in cereal and for cooking dishes.
I jumping right over!
This is very timely for me, because I just threw out some eggs that were "questionable". I wish they would just put something like, "EAT THIS BY TODAY OR YOU WILL BE SORRY." on the label. Wouldn't that just make it easier?
Awesome! I always debate with my husband over whether or not food is still edible.
Jennifer: You are so good about sharing the knowledge you find. Thanks for thinking of us!
Eggs are a big issue with me.
Timely post. We were just discussing how long eggs stay good for after the date. I'll have to go check it out.
Oh I love this. My husband tends to think if it is in the freezer or fridge and not growing mold it is still okay!! I tent to not agree:)
hmm, very practical! thanks!
Great info--thanks! Remember the old 'If in doubt, throw it out'?
The one that has always stuck with me is "If you wouldn't eat it, don't feed it to anyone else".
We don't have that issue here with twelve living out of the same fridge. Food never lasts in that coveted white box long enough ....!
