It's Curtains for Me (literally)

MOOD STATUS: "Nervous". Ordered my curtains yesterday and I'm already having buyer's remorse.

Well, I don't remember if you remember my post earlier this summer about me painting my bedroom and trying to decide on a color. I had it narrowed down to green or blue. Yeah, well, me (being afraid of color and whatnot) went with a goldish color in the end. Yes, I chickened out!

But on the plus side, I DID pick out a new comforter set that has red, brown, and gold in it. Very different for me. Here's a picture of my bedroom. (Keep in mind I have NO pictures up or curtains yet)

I just ordered curtains yesterday and I'm nervous because I had my choices narrowed down to these two samples: brandy color with brown swirls or a gold color with cream swirls.

<------ (This is a picture of the style I'm going to get)

I'm hoping they are both neutral enough and that if I want to change comforters, I won't have too much of a problem pairing something up with them.

I drove my hubby batty with the decision making process. It's just that window treatments are pricey so I didn't want to make a costly mistake. You may think I'm over-the-top but I had to get at least FOUR other opinions (thank you, my lovely neighbors!) before I could finally commit to a decision. (Sad, but true) I agonized for DAYS.

PS. This is why I could never have a house built from scratch. The builders will want to shoot me before it's completed.

Anyhew...I picked the brandy colored curtains. Do you think it'll be too dark?

No!!! Don't answer that. The order is done. I'll post pictures when they're finally up. Maybe around March.

Does it take you a long time to pick out curtains or furniture for your house? Or do you know what you like immediately and stick with it.

I'm one of those people that know what I like right away and stick with it, but then I never spend much on things ...

How's the apple cider thing going?

I think you made a lovely choice! It'll look great.

I'm the kind who knows it when I see it, and I can make my decision with confidence. Sometimes that means I have to wait... There's a spot in our living room begging for a large chair or loveseat. It's been several months, and the spot still sits empty. But I know one day soon I'll see it, and I'll have my chair.

Yes--it takes me forever! Last week I kept wanting to rearrange the furniture before it was all done... then I decided it was more important just to be "settled" for now.

But I think you made great decisions!

Neutral is fine as long as you use splashes of color.

I once painted a room three times because it just wasn't the right color. --and I'm an artist for gosh sakes! LOL

The brandy color looks soothing btw. Perfect for a bedroom where you want to relax.

I love earth tones! Beautiful choice Jennifer.

I pick out furniture better than accessories. Drapes, wall color, all the nick nacks make me batty.

Making decisions on colors and patterns takes me FOREVER. To the point I sometimes give up. LOL!

Chicki: The apple cider vinegar thing is going great! I actually used it on my face and my complection looks fantastic!!

It takes me forever to make a decision about anything, especially when it's a long-term expensive decision. I love the choices you made!

I usually know what I want, it just takes me forever to find it.

I love the curtain samples and bedspread. Very classy.

I agree with Linda...classy. I can very much relate to small decisions being difficult. The big stuff is easy compared to curtains and menu choices.

I love the brandy with brown. What a nice contrast it'll make against your gold walls, a perfect choice. There's so much you can do with those colors, with accessories, bedding, too. Can't wait to see the finished photos!

I think with the light brightness of your walls the dark curtain will look awesome. Your bedroom is beautiful.

I make my own curtains so, yes, the process is extremely long for me, too!

I hope this all works out well, it certainly looks like it is going to. Can I just say that your room looks exactly like something I'd find in a magazine and try to style my own room after?

Jennifer,

You are so not the only one out there that does this. Trust me! Hubs and I own an upholstery shop, and he installs window treatments. I've even had to revamp one or two, you know like change the pleat size (that was so much fun). Right now he's had to cut down a cornice, which he just made a few months ago, and make three new cornices. So, I say it's good to make a wise decision than to change it later, because as you said window treatments aren't cheap, especially when they are custom made (think of all the hand stitching that can go into those things). I love the swags and your color selection is fabulous. Did you get new blinds too? What color?

I would have gone with the brandy colored fabric myself. I'm sure they will be beautiful. I usually can make pretty quick decisions when it comes to decorating my house. I just go with what I like. It's the rest of the decisions I need to make that I have a hard time with. :)

Drapes are tough, I would have agonized for days as well, and my husband would have been annoyed by what he would have considered to be a silly decision... however I do believe that you made the right choice! I think they are going to look lovely in your home!

We have a similar color scheme in our bedroom, although I went a little bolder with the wall color...more of a pumpkin shade. I keep telling myself to get curtains up, but I feel so clueless about curtains! So we just stick with our wood mini blinds for now. :-)

Wow your room is gorgeous. I think the curtains will pop against the beautiful color of your wall. I don't think the wall is too light, I like the way it glows. You're not alone, I hate making those kind decisions. It all feels so permanent!

Oh it is beautiful looking! I love love the spread and all those pillows and how you are matching the curtains. Come do mine!!

So pretty! Your room looks like a lovely getaway! Don't worry, the curtains will be gorgeous!

Ohhh...ahhh...those curtains are going to be so pretty! Love the pics! And, painting with color is scary, but it always looks so pretty afterward.

It looks beautiful! I have a hard time too. We looked for a comforter for our bed for 2 years before we found one. And my husband has definite opinions on decorating so that is always a challange:)

Those curtains are very elegant. I think they'll look lovely. I usually like too many things so it takes a long time for me to pick what I want. It usually ends up very eclectic.

It's going to look awesome! You'll enjoy it!

I'm so slow at making changes to my house because I can't make decisions! It's so hard to look at samples and envision it in real life. Wanna come do my bedroom for me? :)

It takes me absolutely forever! Like a couple years. I could never be an interior decorator. My siblings do it so easily - I didn't get the right genes.

And I'd love to paint my bedroom blue but I know I'll go with a neutral color so the room is warmer. And use blue accents. I'm a total wimp when it comes to decorating. but I am going to paint my kitchen cabinets an antique red -in true New England farm house style! And I'm not backing down on that! :)

I am a pick it quick and leave it forever kind of gal. Your bedroom will look all pulled together with those pretty curtains. :O)

Beautiful! And yes, it took me 10 years to pick a color for my bedroom--blue/green.

Jennifer, your bedroom is gorgeous! I love it!!!
I have some dark curtains and they look nice, I think. But they're silky and kind of thin.
I love how your bed is up against the windows. Very nice!
Shopping is not fun for me. I tend to choose quick to get it over with.

I love the color combinations you have going on in that room. They give off a warm, comfy vibe. And, I'm sure the curtains will be perfect.

I am terrible at making decorating decisions. We've lived in our house 2 years and we still have no curtains (luckily we do have blinds). I can't wait to see what they look like!

Oh Jennifer, your bedroom is beautiful! I love your style and I think the decisions you have made are spot on. It's lovely! I also am one of those that has trouble with decorating decisions and ping pongs, but the pictures you have posted are absolutely beautiful!

I know what I like, but I'm horrible at decorating and making things match. That's why my husband does all of that at my house. Yeah, we make a good match.

Jennifer Shirk said...

Renee: I kept the blinds. They're a cream color.

Elana: I WISH my hubby could do the decorating. actually, no I don't. We'd have Clash posters on the walls instead of wallpaper. LOL

Jennifer,
DAZZLINGLY beautiful room!
Ahem. I love wide open windows. No blinds. No drapes. Yep, hubby and I disagree on this.
So...we have blinds!!!! And it took me the time it takes to snap fingers to order them. Like the wood, plantation style but have oldie goldie metal upstairs.

FUN POST!!!!

Beautiful. That room is going to sing! :)
Pictures are lovely. I am renovating at the moment. Oh the choices!!!!

I love your room, and the bedding. Personally I'd put chocolate curtains up (solid in color) as a focal point for your bed and to frame it. I think that would look great and pick up the warm wood tones of your dresser, and be a backdrop for the room...and a solid chocolate color wouldn't compete with your colorful bedding. I'm thinking the drapes with the swirls will compete too much with the bedding.
Play around with it. Do you have dark brown sheets? If so, hang those up or swag them up over your rod to see how you would like the solid chocolate color. Just another thought...good luck. Looking forward to seeing your finished design scheme.
You're inspiring me to get started on my bedroom. I bought paint last week and need to get new bedding....yet another project to do after I finish my dog run.
Thanks for sharing!

One more thought...if you get a solid color drape then you can transition the curtains around the house from room to room if you want to change things up every once in a while. ;)
