Wednesday Work in Progress #8

IN THE NEWS: Burglary suspect says he was playing hide and seek. Read more HERE.

As some of you fellow twits--tweets-- tweeters? know, I have been sick since this past weekend. Sore throat, headache, tired, blah, meh, blah. You know what I'm talking about.

Anyhew, being under the weather kept me glued to my Alphasmart while I was in bed and I was much more productive with my writing than I've been in quite a while.

(See below)

Yes, that's my fish in the grass down there. Probably dead fish in the grass, but let's not think about it too much. At least it's moving to the right ---> for now. :)

I'm not saying what I wrote was necessarily GOOD, but it's all down on paper and there is at least something to edit. So now my goal this week is to get that finished chapter presentable for my crit partners to read--no easy feat, mind you--and to get at least half of my next chapter written, too. Voila.

Not a bad goal, huh?

So far, I'm on a roll, too, despite the fact that I'm feeling better and there is a HUGE laundry pile that desperately needs to be folded.

How's your work in progress coming along?
Do you work a chapter to death (like me) before your critique partners see it?

I tend to be too quick.. :)

WIP coming along - 15K in and hoping to be more than halfway to my 65K mark by next week. :)

Keep going!! :)

Yay for progress AND for feeling better!!!

And, yes, I too generally rework a chapter to death before I send it to my critique partners! (Unless my excitement overcomes me, which tends to happen on occasion!)

And they still find all kinds of things for me to fix. :-)

I don't know if my crit partner would agree or not (eek!), but I do tend to work my writing to death b/f anyone sees it.

I don't think I realized you were sick. :-( I hope you're feeling better.
Congrats on the wordage! I do read over my chapter before I send it out.

I write the whole thing with minimal edits...just slapping it on the page and then I edit for what feels like a lifetime. Going through it as many as 3 or 4 times before I'll let another soul near it.

Up to 37K on novel 4. Taking notes on novel 5 and still chipping away at 3. That made me tired to write that.

Sometimes being confined to bed can be a good thing ... Great progress!

I usually go over my chapters once before I submit them for critique, because I need to know what's working and what isn't.

This is exactly what happened with my last chapter. By the time my crit partners got finished, it was so much better.

Looks like the words are "swimming" along here ;)

I'm careful the first few times through a chapter, editing as I go. Usually I don't share with a reader yet, unless I think there's some point they can make that might help me through a tough spot.

I go over my chapters too before I send them to my critique partners. I hope you get to feeling better! Not fun!

Hi, Jennifer! Sorry you've been sick, but I'm glad you had a chance to write on your WIP. Given that I'm querying for my first YA novel (going into the fifth week, now) I decided to distract myself by beginning a new WIP, as well. This (along with my 4 rowdy munchkins) has helped reduce my stress level tremendously. I hope your chapter, and those to come, moves along easily for you. Have a great Humpday! Tory

Feel better soon! I'm still keeping with my daily goal of 1,000, but some days it's so hard to get there. I'm facing a little slump at the middle of the book.

Hope you feel better. I'm behind on my weekly goal from last week...and with no crit partners to jog me along, I need to get cracking.

I love my Alphasmart. There's so much more productivity when I don't have internet!

I'm working it slowly theses days. Saturday I'm hosting a huge mess of a party at my house and it's disrupted my mojo.

A ton of people are sick. I hope you are feeling better! I'm starting on revisions this week. I'm torn. Am I excited? Am I sad? Hummm, can't decide.

I'm glad you've been able to write and make a rotten situation better. I hate being sick. When I am sick, everything just falls to pieces.

I send a chapter on, quick, before I can regret it!

Glad you feel better AND have SOMETHING to show for the sickness besides a raw nose or whatever!!!!!

I'm doing "okay." Not great, but persevering!!

Thanks for asking!

Hope you are feeling better. I try to make my chapters as presentable as possible. But there are always things I miss.

Forward progress is good. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway. Sorry, you're not feeling well, but at least it gave you a chance to write, that's a huge plus.

Love your blog.

The laundry can wait. Besides, once that pile is done there'll be more to do, so you might as well keep the flow going with your wip!

Glad you're feeling better!

Progress is good! I haven't finished much on my MS because I've been beta reading like crazy lately. I need to get back to writing.

Good for you for making that sickness work for you!! LOL.

I've got three projects going right now... Not too smart, I'm sure. I'd say I work a chapter halfway to death before I show it to my critique partners... My groups are fantastic, so I have to remember not to get too attached to what I write, because they usually give me such fab suggestions, and I want to leave room for including what they inspire me with! If that made any sense... LOL. I do make sure the writing itself is not anything I'd be embarrassed to present, though.

Sorry you've been under the weather. I'd love to read a post on the pros and cons of an Alphasmart whenever you're up to it.

Writing while ill is awfully hard. I applaud you for the efforts. Glad you're feeling better, Roland

I spent the morning in the ER with one of my boys instead of at the coffee shop with my friend and laptop. 'Nuff said. The boy is glued back together. The mother is wiped out.

Hoping you're feeling better. I just finished Script Frenzy which I'm going to use as a skeleton for a ya novel. I may take a break from those characters and write another though. We need some time apart. The "it's not them, it's me" issue. ;)

I just started following your blog and Twitter! Thanks for stopping by my blog, it's nice to discover another blogger. :)

My WIP... I've been on a dry streak because I've been so busy, and now that things have calmed down, I'm very slowly eking out some words and hoping I get back into a groove ASAP!

Plodding along. My post is my rewrite after a critique. A positive rewrite, so that is good.

Happy Scribbling.
