Bring It On!

IN THE NEWS: Iowa inmates may make toilet paper to save money. Read more HERE.
Christmas Gifts left to buy: 5 (hubby added one on me) Grrr...

'Tis the season and all that, so...BRING ON THE COOKIES ALREADY!

I confess I'm a foodie, so naturally I bake/make about 7 different kinds of Christmas cookies every year. Yes, love the Christmas cookies. In fact, you might even say I'm a bit of a cookie snob. This is how picky I am:

Two years ago I was invited to a "cookie swap". I baked my little heart out for it, making I forget how many dozens of this very one type of very intricate pecan cookie that is by no means a pleasure to bake. But I did it, figuring everybody was probably putting in the same effort so we all could take home some really nice cookies.

Well. WRONGO. One woman ended up buying cookies and bringing them to the swap. Another woman bought the Pillsbury "plop and drop" dough and baked them. I was stunned. Seriously. (And had to throw out almost all of them because they were inedible) They must of have been inedible because even my non picky hubby wouldn't touch them.

Needless to say, when I got invited last year to the same swap, I did not go. Well, all the women there felt bad about the previous year and were looking to make it up to me. (And I'm sure they were looking for my cookies too) LOL

This year, my friend running the cookie swap has decided to step it up a bit and charge $20 a woman. She's going to get an impartial judge and whoever has the best cookie wins the pot.

Well, I won't lie.
I WANT TO WIN THAT COOKIE CONTEST.
But then on the invite I noticed that my friend wrote that I would be coming and bringing my famous pecan cookies.

Um, helllllllo?
Now I can't show up at her party with that cookie! It's like walking into a poker game showing everybody your full house! Sheesh! But don't worry. I have a backup cookie. I just need to test it out again this weekend.

I don't know. Maybe I'm over thinking this. I mean, it's only a cookie swap. Yeah, just a cookie swap...

A cookie swap where I could walk away with $200!!

I'll be sure to give you the lowdown of what happens. (The swap is Dec 14)

What cookie would you bring to a cookie swap like that?
What's your favorite Christmas cookie?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, this Monday, Dec 6th I'm going to be at Rula Sinara's blog: A Writer's Rush, talking about...myself. LOL
And because Christmas is fast approaching, I'll be doing a little book giveaway to some lucky commenter (winner's choice).
So come on over then!
Good luck with the secret cookie and the competition. If you need an official tester, you know where I am ;)
I hope you win the cookie competition!
Pillsbury Dough? That's just lazy.
There's a prison store in Thomaston Maine. They make items out of wood - good stuff. I've bought a few things.
That's a funny story. I sometimes grab storebought for events, but I wouldn't for a Christmas Cookie swap - I know how serious those events are! It's a great way to get a variety. can't wait to hear what happens.
I used to bake ten different types of cookies each year and had loads of fun scouting out new recipes to accompany the old standards.
Now, with my daughter at college and my husband and I more conscious of our health/weight, I don't intend to go all out. There are five cookies that I have to make as they are traditional, but that's it.
Good luck with your cookie wars -- will stay tuned to see what your secret cookie turns out to be :)
That's great! I can't wait to see how the contest turns out. Pecan cookies sound hard to make--what's your back up cookie?
I made chocolate chip last week because my family loves those. I always forget how many the recipe makes so we'll be having chocolate chip cookie treats for awhile :)
Molasses cookies. My grandmother sent them to me in college. My roommates and I would gobble them up. Good luck! Hope you win!!
I am SO with you on this. I'd be after that pot, too. I usually bake for the neighbors at Christmas, cookies or fruit bread of some kind. This year I'm giving them homemade cookies in a jar and letting them bake their own. If I were baking cookies for this swap I'd choose between some type of Italian cookie, French lace cookies, or something easy and decadent with a ton of butter. I can't wait to hear how it turns out.
Good luck with the cookie swap. Hope you win.
My son and I will be making cookies next week and the week after for church and sharing with family and friends. We will be making 5-7 different kinds of cookies. He's put in a request for molasses cookies and also my famous cut out sugar cookies.
Oh wow, I'd never be able to do a cookie swap because I don't like to bake ;p But yum, your cookies sound awesome. Hope you win- I'm sure you will, it sounds like you put your blood sweat and tears into baking and usually that shows! Good luck!
Термин бесплодие означает невозможность зачать ребенка. Если основываться именно на наблюдениях гинекологов медицинских центров Москвы, то около 18 % супружеских пар есть значительные трудности с зачатием.
В медицинских центрах Москвы гинекологами-акушерами проводится лечение трех основных видов женского бесплодия: первичное, вторичное, а также абсолютное бесплодие. Первый вид бесплодия относится к тем женщинам, которые не были ни разу беременны при регулярной половой жизни без контрацептивных средств. Второй вид бесплодия характерен для пациенток, которые имели беременность в прошлом, но на данный рассматриваемый момент беременность отсутствует при регулярной сексуальной жизни без предохранения. Третий вид бесплодия характеризует само отсутствие возможности забеременеть.
Гинекологами выявлены наиболее частые симптомы при мастопатии: ноющая боль в молочной железе, сильное ощущение тяжести, которое усиливается в предменструальный период, частое чувство дискомфорта. Так же симптомами могут служить уплотненные участки в ткани молочной железы, небольшие увеличения, слизистые выделения из сосков. На основе данных многих исследователей риск заболевания раком молочной железы при мастопатии возрастает в 37 раз.
К причинам мастопатии гинекологи относят некоторые гормональные сбои в организме женщины, разные инфекционные заболевания, ну и конечно же неблагоприятная экологическая обстановка, табакокурение, травмы или ушибы груди, ежедневный стресс.
the cookie swap sounds like hell for sure...I'll eat most things but might draw the line at the Pillsbury plop and drop; mm - well maybe I'd eat it come to think of it.
I hope you win! I haven't baked cookies for ages, but I certainly wouldn't buy cookies to take to a cookie swap.
Terri Tiffany said...
You are too funny! I never ever heard of paying for a cookie swap and only actually went to one myself. I probably bought the cookies cause I can only make sugar cookies.
Send me a box. I'll eat yours:)
Oooh, I'm hungry now. :-)
Oh yum. So hungry for cookies now! LOL.
I've never done a cookie swap - seems like a lot of work. Then again, I only bake around the holidays - for which my family thanks me :)
Good luck winning the pot! Maybe you could post your favorite recipes and we can all enjoy :)
Good luck!!! I love the cookies that have Hershey's kisees on them. Peanut butter maybe?
Festive decorations help too! Nothing puts me in a good mood like a few Christmas tree sprinkles!
