A to Z Blog Challenge: D is for...

Holy smokes, it's April already!!

You know what that means?! It means I have until the end of this month to finish my manuscript--or otherwise translated to mean is that I have until the end of this month to write 20K.

So D is for: Discipline and Determination!

I'll need it. Lots of it, actually, if I plan on reaching this goal.

You see back in February, I thought it would be an oh so awesome idea to create a writing challenge between me and a few of my critique partners to motivate us all. (CORRECTION: To help motivate ME) Anyhew, I have been making progress up until my kiddo's birthday took all precedence. So now I'm under the gun to finish.

To some, 20k in a month isn't that much. But for me--a complete turtle of a writer-- it's like doing my own root canal. Well, okay, it's not THAT hard, but you get the idea.

So I'm off now to the writing cave where I won't be coming out of until this afternoon...

How about you? Are you a fast or slow writer? What was the most you ever wrote in a month?

I'm trying to write 45,000 words this month. Right now, I'm at...2,200. Sigh. I'm also a slow writer, which is why I have to force myself to write a fast (and usually awful) first draft. This time, it isn't going very well.

Good luck. I'm off to write!

Jennifer, you can do it! You are inspirational AND funny; love that combo...

I guess I'm a pretty fast writer, but there are some out there faster. Now, if I was working full time, it would go a lot slower. But once I start, I'm driven to finish even when I don't really want the first draft love to end! Good luck!

You can do it!I'm a fast writer but a slow reviser.

Discipline... what does that mean? I've really got to get me some of that. At the moment I'm trying to right at least 1 chapter a day. So hopefully I should be nearly finished my first draft by the end of the month.

Definitely a slow writer. 30k is probably the most I've ever produced, but it was a pretty clean draft.

Good luck! :)

A turtle doesn't even come close to describing my writing style. I'm slowwww. Good luck on hitting your goal...but remember, it's not how fast you write, it's that you finish :)

Well with grad school, thesis, critiques, blog, family ect.... I'm a slow writer. I like to write at least 30 minutes a day and I get a couple of pages done. It is agonizing to not have the time but discipline is so important. Good luck too you.

Once I get my Butt In Chair, I can pump out a bunch of words. It's doing the BIC and staying there that makes me slow in completing a project. Oh, ya, and I'm doing Scriptfrenzy and should be doing what you're doing right now.

I guess I'm a fast writer, if the motivation is there. The most I've written in a month was 55,000 during NaNoWriMo. I'm a slow reviser though. I'm a perfectionist!

Good luck reaching your goals. I've won NaNoWriMo a couple of times so I understand what you're trying to do.

20K in a month sounds like a mountain to me. Good luck!! :-)

I'm also under deadline, Jennifer, and need to crank out at least 40K this month. Prior to publication I could do a 1st draft in 6 weeks. Now, it takes me that long to read my emails!

BUT we CAN both do this...with discipline! ;-)

I think the most I wrote was about 35k for the Nano 2009. All the best!

I'm slow. And I wish I could add steady! It takes grit to keep me focused.

Happy writing Jennifer!

Jennifer, today I'm a slug at writing, at least I think I am if a slug is slower than a turtle. The words just won't mesh! :(

Are you a SOTP writer, Jennifer, or have you a well-written road map to keep you from hitting a dead end?

Wishing you luck with words that flow like hot lava and shape like a masterpiece!

Slow and steady wins the race. I hope you had a productive afternoon!

You can do it! I've done the last two NaNos while doing my blogging at the same time. I can be kind of fast with writing if I really set my mind to it. It usually happens at night where I'll start writing like crazy until I'm tired and have to go to bed.
You will do it!! You're determined!

Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during the challenge I will not be doing so at the moment. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.
Thanks. And I truly appreciate your efforts.

Since I am a newbie to this writing world, I have no idea how many words I can write a month...but good luck to you! Sometimes isn't it a challenge to think of discipline as a delightful word instead of a "dirty" word?

You know I'm cheering for you - as for me, add me to the turtle list ;)
