A to Z blog Challenge: P is for...
I could not wait until this letter came up in the alphabet!
Yay! The day has arrived!
P is for: P90x!!
In case you haven't heard (how could you not? I talk about it constantly) I am now a P90x grad and I actually have restarted the program from the beginning. That's right.
I'm BRINGING IT (a P90x term). :-)
Do you even know what P90x is?
Have you seen the infomercials on it on Saturday mornings? I'm telling you P90x is one EXTREME home workout regimen. But oh so good!
Believe me, I am not one of those hardcore workout people. In fact, I am--er, was a bit of a cream puff. (a cute cream puff, though) Before p90x, I occasionally did spin classes. I ran (the most I've ran ever is about 4 miles) and I sometimes went to the gym and took aerobic classes. Just cardio stuff a few times a week. But I was interested in more...body transformation. So when the hubby ordered the DVDs for himself, I knew I was going to be talked into doing it too.
But I'm so glad!
I won't lie. The first week I was sore and in bed by 7 pm every night. LOL (Sad, but true) But then as the weeks progressed it did get easier (sort of...) and I found I could do more and more of the workout. It became (and still is) a bit of love hate relationship.
I hate it, but I love it. (Tony Horton says this himself in the Ab Ripper workout)
The whole idea of the workout is "muscle confusion". So one day, you're working the arms until they fall off with push-ups and chin-ups and the next day you're working the legs with plyometric jumping exercises, and so forth. There's a kempo kick-boxing day and even a yoga day (THE hardest by far and longest clocking in at 90 minutes). But most of the workout tapes are about an hour. You do need a chin-up bar and free weights, which we did invest in, but we figured it's for health reasons so why not?
I've honestly never looked better, which is why I decided to repeat the 13 week workout. I am this close--ll--to buying a bikini this summer. Yes, you read right.
Whether I have the nerve to wear it is another story. LOL
Have you heard of p90x? Do you know anyone who has done it? And more importantly, are you swimsuit ready?

I have never heard of P90x. It sounds exhausting though.
I suppose I am swimsuit ready. Or as close to it as I ever get.
I feel tired just reading about it. Need to sit down and eat some cake.

Never heard of it (but I'm Aussie and they don't have it here)... it's also heading towards winter so I think I'd better start getting swimsuit ready for next season (it will take me that long).
I have never heard of this workout except from you but I am impressed that you already ran and did spin classes! I can't do that!!! I tried running and could do it only for a few minutes.
Love that you pushed yourself. How heavy were the weights you bought? and where did you put a pull up bar?
I would love to try this.
Wow! What a great endorsement for that program. And, investing in workout equip and clothing is always a good investment. Good for you!
I have heard of the workout and probably need to do it. Congrats on starting it over. Maybe I'll have to look into getting it.
Muscle confusion does not sound fun. However, if it works.... Can't I just ask my muscles difficult riddles instead? Won't that confuse them enough?
Yes, I'm swimsuit ready! I workout all year, and I do something different every day (except Sunday is a break) so I don't get bored with it.
My hubby and I want to get P90X because we both like working out, but it's all so expensive. Since the exercising we do now is working great, there's no point buying it when we're saving for other things (like a house, lol). I've always liked exercise and working out (I used to run track, cross country, and do gymnastics) so I'm totally up for the P90X challenge.
Maybe it'll get cheaper once the hype dies down!
I'm so excited for you...thanks for sharing!!! I've been debating trying this whole system out, but have been seriously stalling. You may have just convinced me to give it a try. ;P
Sounds like something fun for hubs and I to do together too!
OMG, girl, you are the first person I've ever heard of who finished the whole program. You are a rock star!
Love P90X and the Beachbody programs! My husband is a coach, and has been through the P90X series several times. I toyed with it on and off (I prefer Tony Horton's one-on-one and the P90X Plus videos). And then hubby got INSANITY! I never would have believed I could do it, but I'm halfway through my third cycle. If you get bored with P90X, try Insanity!
You are such a good healthy person. And such good habits. I saw chin ups in your list. I am sure I could never, ever do a chin up. I did get a new swimsiut, but it certainly is not a bakini.
Congratulations! I walk my evil lab, Pearl, and do yoga almost every day... Also I try for healthy organic food... I would urge everyone to get rid of all high fructose corn syrup products too...
My daughter and her fiancee have done it several times. It's tough, but that program will kick your butt and get you in shape! Good luck!
I've heard of it, and would love to do it. I'm sitting on the couch right now trying to talk my hubby into do it with me after your wonderful testimony. I need a great big jumpstart to my workouts!
Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog!
I am swimsuit ready, but lacking swimsuit weather. Alas!
Congrats on following through with your program!
That is awesome! Congratulations! I'm Wii Fit-ing, maybe I'll graduate up one day! Cheers!
Sure, I'm swimsuit ready, as long as the swimsuit has a long tank top to cover my stomach and a skirt to cover my read end. :)
I haven't heard of p90X before, but it sounds like an amazing workout.
Sure...we just sold our P90x to my sister three weeks ago! Bummmerrrr. Your post is very motivating and inspirational!! I am not swim suit ready...but I am going to the gym 3 days a week. Baby steps! Great Job!!!!
Hmm. Looks like something I'd rather experience vicariously. ;)
Good for you - the 2 people I know who have tried that gave up within 2 weeks. I've thought about it, but, well...Ok. I really should just break down and do it!
Congrats!!! I've heard it is incredibly hard core!
I have been thinking about trying it myself!
Fun post! I need to do more full body stuff.
You are too adorable! Go for that bikini, Jennifer!
I've been hearing you and Maisey Yates (and Dee?) tweeting your progress and I've heard the infomercial as hubby surfed the channels. But that was all I knew about it until your post. Wow and ugh! Congrats for getting through the 13 weeks alive! Good luck on the next 13 and the bikini shopping, Jennifer. :)
I've got the P90x system but I'm yet to do it, congratulations for doing it! I need to invest in a chin up bar. We have plenty of free weights.
