Michelle Fayard said...: As I was writing the query letter for my first historical YA, The Underground Gift, I can't believe I almost forgot to mention that at the time I started writing the book I lived only minutes away from where the plot takes place--Parkville, Missouri, one of the most notorious pro-slavery towns on the Kansas-Missouri border. The setting for my second book is based on a town in the foothill of the Ozark Mountains where I once spent several years.
