Columbus Day and The Worst of the 80's

It's Columbus Day! (Meaning no school and very little computer time for me)

Oh, yeah, and Christopher Columbus discovered The New World.

But I digress...

Anyhew...I don't know about you but I LOVE 80's music. It's happy and cheesy.
Like me.
So of course when I heard Rolling Stone magazine did a Top Ten Worst Eighties songs list, I was right on that.

In case you are as interested as I was, I have the list here:

1."We Built This City” by Starship
2.“The Final Countdown,” by Europe
3.“The Lady in Red” by Chris de Burgh
4. Wham! — “Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)”
5. Men Without Hats — “The Safety Dance”
6. Falco — “Rock Me Amadeus”
7. Bobby McFerrin — “Don’t Worry Be Happy”
8. Toni Basil — “Mickey”
9. Taco — “Puttin’ On the Ritz”
10. Rick Astley — “Never Gonna Give You Up”

Yeah, um, "We Built This City" was pretty bad, although the video made it much much MUCH worst. And, hey! I LIKE "Safety Dance".

Personally, I would have put Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" on that list and possibly anything by Billy Ocean. :-)

Just sayin'.

So now I'm off to do some more plotting, get a pedicure, and entertain the kiddo. If you're off today, too, enjoy!

Do you like 80's music? What is the worst 80's song you can think of?

Is it horrible that I love eighties music? And eighties movies?? Weird Science. The Breakfast Club. Goonies. Footloose (which is being remade apparently)

I keep going and going and going

I am so gonna have Wham in my head all day now.

And all those songs are really pretty awful. Funny, how because they were so awful, I practically remember all the words to all of them.

Wake me up...

Oh man, you just brought me back.

Love the 80s. My brain hasn't turned on fully today so I'm having trouble thinking of the worst worst, but I can remember some bad ones.

Eat It and such.

Might go around saying Eat It today if anyone gets under my skin.

Ok! I disagree. I loved We Built This City but I was 10ish so...
And Rock me Amadeus? I named our pet bird after that song, er um... musician.

I agree with your list! All pretty bad. I loved the 80's but now that I look back, it wasn't the best time for music or fashion.
As for music, I think you can add Lionel Richie to that list too. I'm pretty sure his solo hits were in the 80's. If not, I'll add them to the bad 90's list.

Happy Columbus Day!

They may have been the worst but they were sure popular.

I admit, those songs are all bad now, but in the day, it didn't get much cooler than Rick Astley! Lol! And, who could forget the video for Don't Worry Be Happy? Robin Williams, people! ;)

I'm an 80's girl and I love my 80's music. I don't care what people think of me, "Wake me up" always puts a cheesy smile on my face!

Yep...80's girl here. ;) I made my poor mom listen to Wham's Careless Whisper over-and-over-and-over on a very long drive to Colorado for a ski trip. They may be cheesy, and kinda irritating, but so very catchy and addictive. Come on...how many of you catch yourself bobbing along to songs you wouldn't normally listen to if you had a choice? :D Enjoy your day!!

Ha ha ha! Rick Astley. Now I have that song stuck in my head. Thanks a lot! Ugh. The English-lanugage TV station in Hong Kong would play that video whenever they had a space they didn't know how to fill otherwise. I heard that song REPEATEDLY, as well as several others I wish I could forget. :)

LOL I know quite a few of these too. I wonder what they consider the best of the 80s?

7 and 8 should not be on this list :-)

Hmm... the worst I can think of?Oh, I know. There was this song that was about 8 minutes long called 'Oh Superman' maybe by Lori Anderson? It was terrible.

I love 80s music, and yes, I knew everyone of those songs. Yikes!

I became a mom in the 80s and totally missed that decade!

These 80's songs were so much fun, though! How could anyone hate them?? :)

Okay, most of those deserve to be on that list, but I have to defend 4, 5, and 9. My kids and I have had a lot of fun when those come on the radio on Big '80s night on our local radio station. (It's especially fun to be singing and dancing in the car when you're stopped next to someone at a traffic light!)
