A Fallen Soda
Hey, all!
My hubby and I are bit sad after we learned this week that Mr. Pibb is no longer available.
Yes, it's true!! (I'd pass you a tissue if I could)
I'm not really a soda drinker. It's more of a treat. But you see, I have found memories of Mr. Pibb. When the hubby and I lived in MA, we used to go to Panera Bread a lot for lunch and that's where we first had Mr. Pibb. The hubby and I used to talk about it all the time. If you've never had it, it kind of has a Dr. Pepper flavor--only better IMHO.
The hubby went looking to order it recently online and, well... then he had to break the news to me:
Mr. Pibb, or
Mr. PiBB as it’s often spelled, isn’t exactly gone, it was replaced by Pibb Xtra
in 2001 with a slightly tweaked formula. That hasn’t stopped the Internet petitions or an entire episode of American Dad
constructed around the soda’s disappearance. When Pibb Xtra came out, bottlers
were allowed to use up their remaining stocks of real-deal Mr. Pibb. By 2003,
all Mr. Pibb was gone and replaced with Xtra. Anything sold as “Pibb” to this
day is “Pibb Xtra”. That’s how Mr. Pibb quietly ended.
**sniff sniff**
Unfortunately it's not the first time, this has happened to me. You may or may not know this, but I was one of the few people in America who actually ENJOYED Crystal Pepsi, also wiped from the market before its prime.
Is it me?
I'm not sure. But it could be you too. Here's a Tribute to Fallen Sodas you may have enjoyed as well.

In other news, I picked out a backsplash for my kitchen. FINALLY.
I ordered pendant lights for my island. FINALLY.
And I'm anxiously awaiting them all to come in now. (Will post pics when all completed)
That's all for me.
I have a library meeting and then I'm off to work on the last chapter of my work in progress. (Yay!!)
How about you? Have you tried Mr. Pibb?
Have any soda or food item you liked that was discontinued on you?

I haven't heard of this soda, but I feel your pain. I felt like that when peanut butter kit kats disappeared. Nobody seems to sell peanut butter and chocolate in England :-(
Doesn't Mr. Pibb taste like Dr. Pepper? I've never been a Dr. Pepper fan, which is probably why I've never even cracked open a Mr. Pibb. ;-)

I never heard of Mr. Pibb and I live in MA. ANd I was one of the few who liked the Pepsi with lemon flavoring. My old brain forgets the name. Pepsi Light? Anyways, it smelled like Lemon Pledge, probably tasted like it, too.
Mr Pibb! He is X-ed! Oh dear!
Two minute silence please!
:-)
Take care

It's been years since I tasted Mr. Pibb. I do recall it tasting like Dr Pepper (my fave ;)...but like you, soda is just a treat for me.
Funny, I've been looking for pendants for my kitchen island too! I need a chandelier for my family room as well.
As long as Pibb Extra tastes pretty much exactly like Mr. Pibb, then I'm okay with this. I think! But thanks for the update. I had no idea.
Congrats on the backsplash!
I always thought Mr. Pibb was trying to be Dr. Pepper, and couldn't quite make it through med school. *grin*
I like Mr. PiBB better than Dr. Pepper too! I had no idea. I do remember drinking Clearly Canadians (not soda, but bubbly). They don't make them anymore. And that frankly, sucks.
I never knew they changed the formula. Mr. Pibb is what we always get at the movies.
I liked Mr. Pibb as it wasn't EXACTLY Dr. Pepper or EXACTLY root beer, but more of a combo of the two. Reminds me of the great Coke debacle years ago.
Have a great weekend. Can't wait to see the new kitchen all done up.
Sorry about your soda. (We call it pop in Michigan.) This happens to me all of the time. They got rid of that Vanilla Taster's Choice with a blue cap. I loved it. They got rid of vanilla Coke. They got rid of Blackjack gum, but it's back on the market. and this can pasta called Rotini I think. It was curly noodles and the sauce was somewhat sweet. We can't have that. There were others that I took personally, but I can't recall them right now.
Never heard of this soda...
I may be showing my age here, but used to love WINK as a kid...it was a real grapefruit soda.
I liked Mr. Pibb, although it was difficult to find in NY. I've never heard of Crystal Pepsi.
I remember before the bottled water craze took over the huge heap of garbage circling itself in the ocean, one enterprising individual put out "Empire State Water" because NYC was known for superior tap water. (It is, it's all I drink.) Everyone thought he was nuts and the company went out of business in a matter of months. I would love to have a bottle of that now as a keepsake.
(Love Linda G's comment.)
I've tasted Mr. Pibb before, but wasn't impressed enough with it to go out of my way to look for it ... or to accept it if other options were available. Like root beer or ginger ale.
They never really carried this pop in my area but whenever I went on vacation I always ordered it! You're right it definitely does taste like Dr Pepper but a bit milder I think. I will miss it too. BTW I thought I was the only one who remembered Crystal Pepsi...that only lasted a year or two didn't it?
Great post :)
XOXO~ Renee
Not a Mr. Pibb fan, so I didn't notice it was gone. RIP, PiBB.
Happy Weekend!
I liked me some Squirt in the day but now am a water drinker. I'd rather eat chocolate then waste my calories on soda. :O)
I wasn't a Mr. Pibb person, I guess, because I didn't notice it's disappearance. Nor did I even know there was a Crystal Pepsi!
I do remember Bubble Up though. I don't miss it. I just remember it.
I've never heard of Mr. Pibb!
Mr. Pibb was better than Xtra. I quit drinking sodas, but I used to like drinking it.
When I drank sodas, I loved Mr. Pibb. I miss "winner" lollypops--if there was a "winner" piece of paper on the lollypop you got one free! Always a treat when I was a kid.
I never heard of it. Now that's it's gone, I wish I could have tasted it. I weep carbonated tears for you.
Oh, I'm sorry it's gone, for your sake. As for me, I'm a faithful Dr. Pepper drinker and I could always tell the difference, so I never chose Mr. Pibb. Poor, Mr. Pibb!
I used to like Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. Now they just have Cherry Dr. Pepper, but I'm fine with that. :)
Nooo! Not Mr. Pibb! The girls and I actually did almost lose it when we heard on NPR that Hostess was in trouble. Not Twinkies!!! :D
What's the world coming to? ;p <3
Don't remember Mr Pibbs. I don't remember Crystal Pepsi being around for very long.
