Friday Favorites!

Hey, all!

In case you didn't know, it's been "Shark Week" on the Discovery channel this week. It's been pretty cool. Surprisingly, even the kiddo is in to it.

It's also made me realize my Friday Favorite for this week.

It's a movie.

And if you haven't guessed what movie it is yet, you need more coffee.

This week's Friday Favorite is Jaws.

The hubby and I watch this every year right before summer starts. We live near the beach and ocean so it's our sick little way of kicking off the season. LOL

I probably first saw Jaws when it played on TV. Edited.
Still, we had a pool growing up and after I saw the movie I couldn't go night swimming in it anymore. I obviously was young. :-)

I have a better appreciation for the movie now as an adult. We own the 25th anniversary DVD with all the behind-the-scene add-ons about how the shark didn't work, so they didn't show much of it in the movie but how that really added to the scariness. And how a few added scenes were even filmed in a swimming pool!

One of my favorite scenes is toward the end of the movie. Hooper, Brody and Quint are in the boat, drinking and sharing stories. That's when Hooper asks Quint about his time on the USS Indianapolis. He then goes into a really cool monologue about it. So cool that the hubby and I looked it up to see if the story was true.

And it was.

Several years ago we ended up reading the non fiction book In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton to learn more about it. I honestly cannot recommend this book more--especially if you like US History. This is not my normal go-to book, but I couldn't put it down.

This is the scene, if you're interested:

This is one of those rare movies the hubby and I can watch every year and not tire of it.

What about you? Are you a Jaws fan?
Do you have one of those movies you can watch over and over and not get tired of it?

Love the accent! I have a great Jaws line in one of my novels.

Jaws freaked me about the entire ocean! Ner ner ner ner ner ner...

I'm not a mushy gushy romance gal, but I have to watch The Notebook whenever it's on.

Jaws is an excellent movie, even if it did scare the bejeezus out of me. Hard to believe Spielberg was so young when he made it.

We love shark week! Even my four-year-old likes watching it.

Hubby and I can recite much of the script.

And whenever we run into bigger trouble than we think we can handle, almost simultaneously we'll say, "We've got to get a bigger boat."

I can watch Up over and over too! And everytime I cry... So good!

I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen Jaws... The one movie I can watch over and over is Dirty Dancing.

When the Eldest was a baby and was hungry, her cry sounded like the opening notes of the Jaws theme song. Makes me laugh when I hear the music.

I read the book before I saw the movie and it was so good! My BF's favorite movie is Jaws, but he annoys me with his quotes. lol

I love many of God's creatures. Sharks are way down on my list. I'm working on a warmer attitude for alligators and crocodiles.

I just watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding again and it never gets old for me. If the movie is a great one, I can watch it until I know the dialog and I still love it.

I saw "Jaws" when it first came out, and enjoyed it, but have never watched it a second time. No particular reason why. Just haven't. Lots of older movies, I've watched multiple times, like "The Quiet Man" and "Friendly Persuasion" and a whole bunch of others.

As for the U.S.S. Indianapolis, I know an amateur radio operator who served on her during WWII and is a survivor of that experience with the sharks. The ship is now a museum ship, and has an amateur radio station onboard. Ken is way up there in age now, and has some medical difficulties, but a group of hams who live in his area got him set up so he could talk on the radio with the station on the Indianapolis. Needless to say, he was quite the star for everyone on frequency. The guys on the museum ship were talking about its history, but Ken lived it.

This post made me chuckle because my dad let me and my two sisters watch Jaws when we were kids too. Ever since then, I've had a HUGE fear of sharks. Like I won't go far into the ocean at all, still to this day. :)

LOL! OMG, Jaws. "We're gonna need a bigger boat." Can you believe I've only seen that move once when I was a little girl. And then I fell asleep at the long part where he's out in the ocean. I need to watch it again.

And now that we're miles away from our beach, I guess I could tune into shark week. I always like watching those shows, but I never watched them w/the girls. Didn't want to scare them. :D <3

Jaws is a great movie - but I never watch it before I go SCUBA diving! Too scary!

I watched Jaws on TV not long ago. It's a great movie even though the special effects aren't as good as they are these days.
I remember going swimming at the beach after watching Jaws the first time. I had to keep touching my legs to make sure they were still there!

That scene is what makes Jaws a classic!

I love that movie. We used to always watch shark week with our kids when they were younger.

Yup, Jaws is a classic.

I love "Jaws". Read the book before I saw the movie (my mother refused to watch the movie because she read the book!).

But the movie I'll watch over and over is "While You Were Sleeping". My husband and I watch it EVERY Christmas! It just cracks me up!

I love Jaws! At least now I do. I saw Jaws 2 (the one with the kids in it) in the theater. I was just a kid myself and we lived on a beach. I refused to go in the water for years after that! I told my kids how much it scared me and let them watch it on DVD...yep, they just laughed at me. The filming looks so 'fake' to them given the technology they're used to LOL.

I just saw Jaws for the first time about a year ago. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
