Read Across America!

Hey, all!

Did you know that today is READ ACROSS AMERICA Day?!

Get ready to grab your hat and read with the Cat in the Hat on Monday, March 3, 2014 for the 17th annual Read Across America Day. The Seussical celebration will kick off a week of reading across the nation as NEA members gather students, parents, and community members together to share their love of reading.

I am heavily involved with my town's library (we have THE best library around) so I was invited to read at the primary school this morning.
However, we got a boat load of snow! And school was cancelled. WAH.

I was assigned a Kindergarten class--and would have been reading The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. (one of my top ten all- time favorite books)

Hopefully, they'll reschedule.

I read to my kiddo a lot when she was young, until about 2nd grade when she felt she wanted to read on her own. More WAH.
My second choices that I thought about reading were Click Clack Moo, Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Where the Wild Things Are, and Diary of a Fly. Fun books!

Well, that's it for me. I need to go shovel. :-)

Have you ever been involved in Read Across America? Do you (did you) read to your children?
What's YOUR favorite children's book?

Haven't done Read Across America. Read to my girlies when they were little. The favorites: Madeleine, Good Night Moon, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Where the Wild Things Are, The Mitten. My favorite: Green Eggs and Ham because it was the first book I learned to read all by myself.

I've never heard of Read Across America, of course...I live in Canada. :D

I read to my children for years. When they started reading, I'd read longer books that were still above their reading level and had great fun with books such as The Indian in the Cupboard, The Trumpeter Swan and Stuart Little. There are so many fabulous books out there. My favorite picture book, and I still have my copy from when I was a child, and now read it to my grandchildren is The Monster at the End of This Book starring Lovable Furry Old Grover. :D

I didn't know it was Read Across America today! Well, I guess I'll just have to do some reading tonight, now won't I? I'll take any excuse at all...:)

Hope you didn't get too much snow. We got about 4 inches, plus a coating of ice before that just to make things interesting. Stay warm!

Sorry your reading was cancelled. I don't have kids, but my parents read to us a lot as kids until we could read ourselves. My brother, sister and I are still huge readers.

I always thought The Giving Tree was the saddest book ever written. The tree just gives and the boy just takes. Now that I'm a parent, it makes a little more sense, but it's still kind of sad! I've never done Read Across American, but I've celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday a few times by going to read to little kids. My kiddo is currently into "The Monster at the End of this Book." Happy Reading!
