On Writing: It's all about mind games

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: "No Roots" by Alice Merton

Happy Monday!

I just recently returned from the New Jersey Romance Writers Conference and had a BLAST. It was especially fun since two of my critique partners were able to make the trip so we could meet up.

But what I also love about going to conferences is hearing the woes and stories of other authors. It's so nice to be sitting in The Published Author Retreat and think, "Oh, good. It's not just me."

I find that most writers are like me: they don't necessarily like writing. They like to have written.
Getting those first words down is about as painful and nauseating as drawing blood. But once they're down, the editing and fixing is the fun part.

One writer said she writes in scenes not necessarily by chapter. Then when she puts the scenes together she thinks, "Oh, look, I already wrote 50,000 words. It's all about mind games."

Yes, it is all about mind games. At least for me, too.

I just discovered a nifty trick by my critique partner. She told me that if you set a timer for 15 minutes and see how many words you get down, then you can multiply it by 4 and know roughly how much you can do in an hour. Knowing that can help you with NaNoWriMo and how much time you will need to get your word count in for the day.

GENIUS.

I simply use it to psyche myself out. (More Mind Games)
I set the timer for 15 minutes, write, and once I'm done, I "reward" myself and do something else for a little bit. Then I set the timer all over again. I've been more focused in those 15 minutes and as a result much more productive without taking too much time out of my day.

Until next time,
Jennifer

Sounds like the conference helped you a lot. When writing fiction, I often do it in short 10-15 minute bursts. Put a few of those together and you'll get a lot done.

I really want to thank Dr Emu for saving my marriage. My wife really treated me badly and left home for almost 3 month this got me sick and confused. Then I told my friend about how my wife has changed towards me. Then she told me to contact Dr Emu that he will help me bring back my wife and change her back to a good woman. I never believed in all this but I gave it a try. Dr Emu casted a spell of return of love on her, and my wife came back home for forgiveness and today we are happy again.
