This and That

IN THE NEWS: "According to Microsoft, the fabled Six Degrees of Separation theory holds water. After studying 30 billion computer instant message conversations among 180 million people, Microsoft found just 6.6 degrees of separation between any two users of its Microsoft Messenger instant message program." I just finished my first book--by a well known romantic comedy author--and was highly disappointed.

*sigh*

Of course I finished it, but I skimmed a lot of it too. It was kind of funny. I guess. Although I don't remember laughing out loud like I do when I read Susan Elizabeth Phillips. The hero was OK too. He was a bit rough around the edges for my taste (You know, the kind who smells his own armpits) But I overlooked that part, because I know I'm picky.

So why didn't I just put the book down and walk away halfway through? Well, 1) I was at the beach and no other options at my disposal, and 2) I have a real problem NOT finishing a book. It has to be pretty bad for me to toss it aside. I mean, really bad. Borderline super bad.

I think it's my stubborn side showing--or maybe it's my optimistic side showing. Not sure. Speaking of "not sure", I'm not sure I'll give this author another shot or not. At least not for a while.

Anyhew... on an even darker note, the kiddo wants to get her ears pierced. TODAY. Eeep. I wanted her to get her ears pierced a while ago, but because she's such a chicken and has such a low tolerance for pain, she's been too scared to do it. I personally think she's been seeing enough of her friends with earrings that she's turned a corner. Ah, peer pressure.

So I'm taking her today to get them done.

This should prove interesting...

I agree with Nadia. Eeeewwww!!!!

Both of my girls got their ears pierced when they were little.
One shed a few tears, the other didn't. Let us know how kiddo makes out.

I've been debating getting the new one's ear pierced. I meant to get my eldests done while she was a baby but it never happened. Now I'm paranoid she'll take them out or rip them out since she's not quite old enough to understand why they should stay in for so long. Hmmmm...

Hope yours does well! Keep us posted!

I used to feel compelled to finish a book. Not anymore. Life is too short and I have so many other things to do than suffer through.

Hope the piercing goes well. Get them both done at once if you can.

I totally understand the need to finish a book even if it is not enjoyable - especially if it is one that I have actually bought and paid for! With a library book I will be more quick to toss it aside.

I did that last week. I finished it because someone had ranted and raved about what a good book it was. I kept reading...hoping to find what part she was talking about. LOL!

Oh, I hope kiddo does good and loves the new big girl look!

Armpit, yuck. I never finish a romance that's boring...even if I paid for it. I recently forced myself to go through a renowned YA second book, with a lot of skimming...it was sooo boring, nothing like herfirst one...I'm reading YA books more now until the urge to write adult romance hits me.
