What's in a name?

MENTAL STATUS: "Thrilled". My new double oven is being installed today! Woo-hoo!

What's in a boat name? Why do people even name their boats--or houses for that matter? Maybe to reflect the owner's personality?

Well, we have good friends who've had a boat for some time and (for some unknown reason) have now decided to give their boat a name. So I'm trying to come up with something as fun and easygoing as they are.

Me (being the Google crazed woman that I am) decided to look up boat names on the computer to get some ideas.
I found this:
Most popular sailboat names
Orion
Zephyr
Stargazer
Free Spirit
TBD
Cheers
Mariah
Solitude
Sandpiper
Calypso
Banana Wind
MoonDance
PATRIOT
Mental Floss
valhalla

Ugh. I can't believe that list is accurate. I'm sorry but all those names stink. They want something FUN. A fun boat name. Fun and clever. Maybe even a play on words. That would totally fit them.

I was thinking along the lines of
"Live Free or Dive" or
"Off Da Hook" or maybe even
"Tons of Fun".
What do you think?
Any ideas? What would you name your boat?

LOL! I like the "Off Da Hook". Especially if they love to fish.

STARGAZER?! are you kidding me? It sounds like a name for a telescope or something.

I like "Off Da Hook". Or "Gone Fishin" Because that's about all I would do. Maybe "Sharkbait".

I'm sorry, I have to go with "Solitude" because that's all I think of when imagining being stretched out on deck reading my favorite book.

You never read my first manuscript (thank God), but the hero owned a Sea Ray sport yacht. When I did the research on sport yacht, I got so into it you would've thought I was really planning to buy one!

I love to look at boat names when we walk around the local marina...funny though, not a single one comes to mind. Have fun!

People have such a hard time coming up with boat names; they often spend more time thinking about the name than researching the actual boat purchase!

If you're feeling creative, please stop by my boat name blog and offer some suggestions to all the people who have sent in their stories asking for help naming their boats.

i agree, Off Da hook is great! I always liked the name I saw on one boat many moons ago.
"Seaduction"

And I just recently saw a "Money Pit" which is the essence of owning a boat in a nut shell.
