Bamboozled!

We have hermit crabs and are now the proud owners of... fish.
Yes. Two cute ones named "Fudge" (he's brown) and "Goldilocks" (guess what color he is?). Anyhew, I was sold this fairly large aquarium with filter and bling on the pretense that "fish are easy to take care of".
Oh yeah? Well, I think I got a defective fish.
Fudge got stuck in the fake trees that are in the tank. Twice. Then, two days later my hubby sees Fudge under the filter--trapped. The poor thing somehow got his fins stuck in the vent. So we had to unplug the filter so he could get out.
I'm worried that this fish is going to get himself into trouble again, which leaves me checking on him several times a day! (He got caught in the branches again this morning)
I'm beginning to think there's a problem with him AND that I would have been better off getting a hamster like my kiddo originally wanted.
*sigh*
Do you have any pets?

No, ma'am! No pets in my house now. I've had enough trouble taking care of the humans over the years.
My husband had a 50-gallon fish tank at one time and my youngest daughter had two cats, but those days are over. Thank you, Jesus!
We are known among our friends as the Pet Family. We have two hamsters, two cats, and a dog. Some days I feel like I live in a zoo!
Just two cats, outside. :-) But my son was catching hermit crabs in the Keys and wanted to keep them. So maybe someday...
Sorry about the fish. LOL
haha. I just can't stop laughing at your fish getting stuck in the filter. I'm a horrible person.
Jessica & Jody: My family would LOVE a cat. But I have allergies and have been dubbed "the fun stopper". LOL!
Joyce: I know!! What kind of fish does that? Is that crazy or what? :)
I'd love to have fish, but I think my cats would just assume I'd opened a snack bar.
Do husbands count? British people refer to people they like as "pets," at least in Agatha Christie novels they do!!
We have four 'fur children,' that is, cats. I talk baby talk to them and spoil them beyond reason.
I think the fish story would be a good topic to write about! You wouldn't even need to embellish it!
Love your blog!
Jen
Oh, man, Jennifer, I hear you. I was always told fish were calming. Nuh Hu. Not to me at least. I constantly worry about mine, constantly have to clean their tank and filter parts. Years later, I'm seriously getting to the point where I wish their time WAS up. How sad is that!
But, on the hamster note. I have two of them around here too. One has cost us over $300 in lancings and drugs to get over an infection from a seed getting stuck in her pouch. They're draining too.
Any kind of pet seems to cause me stress, but I do love them, regardless. Glutten for punishment, I guess.
I can't help but laugh thinking the guy at the pet store partied after he finally got rid of his "special" fish. Poor thing. Our crabs died and little man was upset...didn't notice for an entire week. He bawled for about 10 minutes and wanted to visit where we "buried" them. We've got 4 dogs. No more pets. I'm done.
We have one dog and she is enough of a handful that I can't imagine getting any more pets anytime soon.
And good luck with that fish - getting caught in the filter reminds me of the escape scene in Finding Nemo.
I have 3 Betta fish - love them dearly. Clifford, Theo and Lloyd. ;) Plus my albino frog, Jack Bauer, who keeps me company at work (God bless my boss who allows frogs in the workplace!).
Better a fish than a dog like mine capable of ruining thousands of dollars in landscaping...
We have a pet, a cat. This cat is okay, but has shredded the carpet in every doorway. Not happy about that, to be sure! I'd love a dog, but work full time and don't want to leave it in a kennel all day. I'll have to wait on that, I suppose.
*giggles* OMG I think your fish might be mentally challenged. hehehe Your post cracked me up!
We've got a beta named Nemo, a cat named Aine, and 2 dogs named Fippy and Ninka. I love them all!
I have killed a myriad of hermit crabs. I actually watched the last one pull itself out of its' shell and die.
NO. MORE. We do have a really spastic black lab named Bella. Wasn't diggin' her at first, but those brown eyes just slay me.
