Lobstah Roll
MOOD STATUS: "Upbeat". My jury duty service is done! (For at least three years)
No, I didn't make a mistake with my post title. I meant to spell lobster as lobstah. And if you lived up in New England for any length of time, I would not need to explain why. :)
I actually made my own lobster rolls the other day. Lobster was $4.99 lb at the supermarket so after I was assured that they would steam them for me and I would not have to deal with them live, I bought some.
PS. That's a cheap as all get out price for lobster, folks!
Anyhew... if you've never had a lobster roll, well, I'm sorry. So here's a great recipe, so you can make it for yourself at home. My little one loved it, too!
Lobster Roll
Ingredients
1/2 cup chopped celery (from 1 to 2 celery stalks)
1 pound freshly picked lobster meat, chilled and chopped into chunks, or 5 pounds live lobsters, steamed and meat removed
1/2 c good quality mayonnaise
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3 hot dog buns
Directions
In a medium bowl, combine the lobster meat, celery and mayonnaise and gently toss until well mixed. Season with the salt and pepper and chill for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight) before serving.
Preheat a large heavy skillet over medium flame. Lightly butter both sides of each bun and cook for 2 minutes per side, until golden brown. (The buns may also be toasted under a broiler or grilled.) When toasted, stuff them with the chilled lobster salad and serve immediately with mixed greens on the bun.
YUM!
This USA Today article goes on to say how prices on lobster have dropped.
So now's your time to eat up!
When was the last time you've had lobster?

Oooh, I bet my husband would love those!
That is an amazing price! And the recipe sounds yummy, but at the price of lobster here, I have to stick with the immitation kind. Not near as good, I know!
Love it. Wish I could eat it already made right now. :D
Are you in New England? I am.

I can't wait to try it Jenifer. I'll have to buy ear plugs first though. Hubs will be having fits that the kids are picking at their food. :)
I'm going to need you to make one of these and bring it to my house STAT. Thanks.
you're too funny. sounds good. unfortunately, i don't care for lobster.
Hi, Jennifer! Congrats on being finished with jury duty! That is definitely a great feeling!
I don't eat seafood, but those rolls sound really good!
Can I say salivating? The seafood selection in Texas is better than you'd think it would be, but not as good as I've found it to be on the East Coast.
i love lobster. it's just so hard to eat fresh. but i love the idea of the hotdog buns! how cool is that?

Oh, yummo!!! I'll definitely have to try it. Glad you're done with jury duty!!
I love lobster rolls. I'm going to have watch for a sale on lobster.
YUM! I love lobster, so I'll definitely be trying this. The way you spelled "lobstah" made me laugh, because my husband got me a t-shirt from a Red Sox baseball game that says "Green Monstah" on it :)
I'm hungry...thanks for the recipe!
Lobstah Mania!
Hmmm, I've never eaten lobster. I just always picture these poor little creatures in fish tanks at the grocery store. :) Actually, I've never been able to bring myself to taste it.
OK-- I have to pass on the lobster--could never bring myself to like seafood.
So did you get picked for the jury?
No lobster but I did have a lot of crab while in St. Michael's last month. YUMMY! :O)
Wendy: No, I'm not in NE, but I did live in MA for 5 years.
Terri: Nope. The case was settled.
Beth: Ha! I need a shirt like that. :)
I only had lobster once, and that was many many, moons ago. I think I pretty much thought crab was better. LOL That recipe does sound great though. I might have to try lobster again sometime, but I'm with you if it's not given to me cooked I just don't think I could do it! After seeing all the beautiful cows at the county fair this year I may never eat beef again!
Oh my how cheap your lobstah is! Here in Cyprus it is very expensive.
Nice to see a traditional recipe, and obviously from someone in New England who doesn't need to go on about the rolls - there's just regular old hot dog buns around here, eh!
I've got a few more lobster recipes if you'd like a little variety while taking advantage of those cheap prices.
