Cupid Shot Me :)

IN THE NEWS: 3-legged dog wins 1st place in NYC shelter contest. Read more here.

Fellow blogging bud, Diane Estrella is hosting a little post Valentine's Day fun.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Diane thought it would be fun to share personal stories on when and how Cupid Shot Me! This could be a first date, how you met your spouse, a worst date ever or maybe what your dream date will be when you finally meet Prince Charming.

If you feel like participating, too. Check out her blog here for more details.

So without further ado, I will briefly describe how I met my Prince Charming--er, hubby.

I was in college (in my fourth year of a five year degree) on winter break. I wasn't dating anyone-- or interested in dating anyone-- since I had just suffered a bad break up of a long relationship. So I'm home when the phone rings.
Me: Hello?
My aunt: Jennifer? It's Aunt Helen. Would you like to meet a nice young man?
Me: (frowning because I had no idea what my aunt deems as "nice young man") Um...I don't know...
My aunt: He travels all over with his job, so he's very busy. I won't give him your number if you're not interested...
Me: (grudgingly) Ok. I guess that's---
My Aunt: Great! (hangs up)

Ugh. I have to tell you, I wasn't holding out hope for this to be a love match. I mean it was my aunt and his mother who was doing the matchmaking. (A yikes)
He ended up calling me 2 weeks later, my last weekend before I had to go back to school.

As soon as I heard his voice, I was HOOKED. In fact, the hubby has had many people tell him that he has a voice for radio. (He likes to joke he has a face for radio, too. LOL)
He made me laugh and laugh on the phone. So when he asked me if I'd like to go out that night, I said, "YES!!"

When he picked me up I, I thought he looked very young (his voice sounds older). I guess I expected him to look more "worldly", too, since he was out of college and a few years older. :) But we were both pretty young. We went out to dinner in Philadelphia and then to the Copa 2 for margaritas (my first date in a big city, so I was impressed!). We call it our marathon date since he picked me up at 6PM and I got in around 3AM! Surprisingly, I did NOT get in trouble with my parents.

Anyhew, he used a credit card to pay for dinner and after he signed the receipt he held it up and said, "For the scrapbook?" --which made me laugh.
Little did I know he ended up saving it (as well as several other souvenirs from our dates).
(That old softie) :)

We both knew that it was IT right away for both of us. We even said the "i love yous" not long after that first date and seventeen years later we're still together and very much in love. :)

So that's our story--a successful blind date.

Are you doing Diane's posting?

How did you meet your honey bunny?

Aww! That is sooo sweet. I have to tell you it sounds like fodder for your next novel if you haven't worked it into one already. Thank you for sharing! I'll have to stop by Diane' blog when my brain wakes up.

Yep, I'm playing.

This is so romantic. Wow, what a date too! :-) And seventeen years?? I'm hoping hubby and I reach that mark and are still in loving and loving.
Thanks for sharing Jennifer!

Ref: For the scrapbook?
How sweet!

My husband and I were high school sweethearts. We are both alphas, and we drove each other crazy. LOL!

35 years later, we still do.

This is so wonderful learning about all you guys and your cupids. I was out of the loop for a while so I didn't catch this to participate. Now I'm sorry I missed it. Cupid struck me when I moved in with him and two others in Toronto. That was a long four months trying to avoid my growing attraction.

Love at first voice..... wow! How could your mom yell at you for being late since she's the one that set you up. Love the story, so perfect :O)

You married that nice young man! Love it.

I met my man in Hilton Head, when I lived there the summer between my junior and senior yr. of college. We both attended the same school. I remember he looked me right in the eyes when I spoke.

Love that you guys still have that receipt.

Great story, isn't it funny how you just know so early on that this is it. My husband and I are the classic high school sweethearts ;)

Wow! Who gets married to a blind date? I've never heard of one working out before. And how cute that he saved souvenirs of your dates! :)

Awwww! Great story - I love it and I hope this gives hope to people going on blind dates - sometimes they really can turn out well!

That was great...I love reading positive stories like that. At my job, there are a bunch of women that sit around and complain about their husbands...Mine is not perfect, but I have nothing to add to those conversations...

That was great hearing your story.

Aww! That's so great. :)

Alas, I have no stories to share, as I don't have anybody. 'Course, I don't want anybody at the moment, anyway...

Hey there! I linked to your post from Diane's site. Yes, I'm playing too! Mine wasn't a love at first sight or at first voice, but love grew out of a friendship for us. Now almost 25 years later I love him more each day. He isn't perfect, but neither am I - a match made in heaven! Thanks for sharing.

Jennifer, what a fantastic story. I love how you were set up. And too funny that he waited so long to call. And, very sweet that he was sentimental from the start.

I meet my husband when we moved to a new town when I was 13. We lived one road away from one another. We married very young. I was 17 he was 18 and now 11 1/2 years later, here we are driving each other crazy. :)
