Blogging Challenge: A to Z!

Hey, all!

Yes, I've joined the bandwagon for the A to Z Blogging Challenge for the month of April! Don't know about it?
  1. For more info on it go HERE.

  2. April is usually a busy time for me so I never got to participate last year. Unfortunately, nothing has changed this year--aside from my sanity--and I'm doing it anyway.
Sometimes you just need a change. :-)

I have no rhyme or reason or plan for my posts. I joined late so I'm just winging it. Yep. Because that's the way I roll...

(Actually, that's not true.) I very close to a Type A personality so this is REALLY different for me.

Anyhew, and away I roll...

A: A is for American Girl.

Guess what? I'm going to the American Girl Doll Store in New York City on Saturday! I'm very excited because I've never been! (Actually, my mom and the kiddo are going too) We ALL have never been.

My mom got this brochure from a travel agency and they happened to be having a bus trip there that includes lunch. So considering it's the kiddo's birthday Saturday, we thought it would be the perfect gift. My kiddo already picked out the outfit for her doll:

Snazzy, huh? I want a leopard coat like that.

I never had an American Girl doll growing up. I don't even know if they were around back then! But as expensive as the dolls are, they really are nice and the books they put out are even nicer.

I can't wait to go!

How about you? Have you ever been to an American Girl Doll store? Any tips? Did you have an American Girl Doll growing up?

No American Girl dolls for me. My siblings and I had Cabbage Patch kids instead. My goddaughter and niece have AG dolls and love them. My goddaughter went to one of the stores once and had an absolute blast. I don't have any tips for you but I hope you have a good time.

I'm not sure they had the dolls when I was a kid. I never heard of them until I was a mommy.

My daughter got her Bitty Baby for her first Christmas - of course, I was more excited than she was, LOL. We made her wait until her 8th birthday for the "real" doll. The magazine is wonderful as well. We haven't been to the mecca in NYC, but they did just open a store near Boston, so we are planning a visit...
have fun and good luck with A to Z!

No dolls for me either. My cousin had the books though, which I enjoyed reading.

My daughter read the books, but she was never into dolls. I was so disappointed! Have a great time in NY!

I've been to the American Doll store and my word of advice is keep your pocketbook closed or else you're walking out with less dollars than you walked in with.

I took my niece there and yes we walked out, wait, I walked out with less but I had a good time with her and her doll.

Have fun, it's a nice place for lunch.

Super cute! What a great idea. I don't have daughters, but I know little girls who get excited about these dolls and their stories. I think they're brilliant!

Oh my gosh! Day One and already bringing back memories! I had a whole collection of the American Dolls, couldn't help myself! I do think that for my children as long as they're still around I'll be buying them. They were amazing :) Always had me smiling as a kid!

So excited that you joined in on the fun too!

I'm from the UK, so we didn't have the American Dolls. In fact, I hated anything girly and wanted all the boys toys, like Star Wars figures and rollar blades. Unfortunately, I always got Barbie or Sindy.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

A few years ago, my youngest (she was probably about 7 or 8 at the time) got American Girl gift cards for Christmas, and then we went to the store when we visited my sister's family in Dallas over Christmas break. It was a MADHOUSE (did I mention it was around Christmas?), but we had a wonderful time, and my daughter had no trouble spending those gift cards. :)

Hi Jennifer

No, I'd never heard of them. For me, it was Tiny Tears but my Nan could never afford to buy me one as a child.

Great to make your acquaintance and look forward to following you and your writing goals.

I've never heard of American Girl dolls either but then I too come from the UK. I remember Tiny Tears. You gave her a drink of water and she cried and wet her nappy - yes, it sounds naff but it was fun in those days. Have a great day out.

I would have loved to bring my daughter there when she was younger and into it. Be prepared to spend money! Or not. :)

I've been there. An amazing place. The doll can have her hair done at the beauty salon. Do you get to have lunch there with the doll? I think they get special seats (no joking).

It's also w/in a stone's throw of Rockefeller, Sax and St. Patrick's Cathedral if you have extra time.

My daughter had Kirsten and Felicity -- we still have all the accessories upstairs. Have to admit, I loved playing with all that stuff with her. :)

I never really got into the American Girl Doll thing. I remember wanting a doll and not getting it...so I moved on to other interests!

This is so cute! I absolutely loved American Girls as a kid! I remember role-playing the plays for Kirsten that came in those accessory books with each doll, re-enacting the stories of their lives; and when Felecity came out we got to go to her inaugural tea party in Williamsburg; they didn't have any of the stores when I was still collecting and i still have yet to visit one:( I bet you will have a blast with your fam in NY! What a wonderful trip to go to together.

I've never been, but I love those dolls. I brush my niece's dolls' hair whenever I'm over there. So beautiful!

Have a fab time in The Big Apple!

This is my favorite post of the entire A to Z challenge! I already know it and it's only day 1, lol. I love love love the American Girl doll collection! I have Molly McIntire. I got her for my 10th birthday. That's still my favorite birthday memory when I opened that box and saw my Molly! She's my most treasured childhood possession. I still dress her for the seasons (yesterday I put her in her yellow raincoat and red galoshes). I hope your daughter cherishes her doll forever! That leopard outfit is adorable.

I haven't been to the American Girl Doll store but I want to go so much! Have a wonderful time!!!

My daughters are totally into American Girl dolls. We have a store close by in L.A. we visit. Expensive stuff for sure. They love to take their dolls to lunch there and have the doll's hair styled LOL! When I was a kid I had GI Joe doll .... errr....action figures. Nothing fancy.

Ooo, great post and lucky you and kiddo! Happy Birthday to her! Love the leopard coat. I've never been, nor even held one in my arms.

Y'all have fun!

Love the coat and hat! I was so NOT a doll chick. I liked playing outside and riding bikes.

I think I've seen an American Girl brochure...not sure. I didn't have one growing up, but I did have an international doll collection (we traveled a lot). Mostly, I played with Barbie, Baby Tender Love, and Baby Chrissie.

The dolls we had growing up were barbie dolls, but this looks nice too. Enjoy your trip to the store.

Growing up in London, my main dolls were Sindys, Barbies, Tiny Tears, and a realistic baby sort of doll - nothing so glamourous as this! Hope your kiddo has a lovely birthday. :)

Gah! American Girl...my daughters drove me nuts with the books and the reading club and the dolls. Cha-ching!

It was great for them though.

My own kiddo wanted one when she was younger but we couldn't afford $87 for a doll. They are nice dolls though.
I hope your daughter has a great birthday.
Thanks for the follow.
You have a nice blog.

My daughter, who is turning 11 in a few days, wants one. Well, I got her one. I didn't think she would want one at this age, but who am I to say!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier today!

I hadn't even heard of the American Girls before I'd seen one of the movies. In Australia, we don't have them here.

Hope you have a wonderful time on your American Girl adventure! :)

Oh how cool!!!! The community ed department of our school district organizes mini trips like that too...you board the bus at midnight and they drop you in Time Square at 8 am...then pick you up there at 8 pm that night and drive back home. My daughter has a hand me down AG doll and a bunch of books. Have fun!!!

When I saw your post title, I thought "Oh good! A post about Tom Petty!"

I never played with dolls-my brothers would always beat me up and steal them. It has scarred me for life!

I just hope you'll let her play with the doll-I have a friend who makes his daughter leave them unopened so they may be worth something as a collectible.

What a great trip you have planned - and her doll is anxiously awaiting! I love it!

I was a big doll person when I was growing up, but American Girls hadn't been invented yet. My go-everywhere-with-me doll was a Raggedy Ann whom I named Candy. I too dressed her early for big trips. Hope you have fun!

How fun! We've been to the Am. Girl store in Boston, which actually isn't in Boston. LOL. It's tough getting out of there without spending a ton of $$$. Have fun! And good luck with the challenge!

I was already in my 20s when they came out in the bookstore I worked at. Now there are stores exclusively for them? I had no idea. Guess I should have given in to the impulse to buy some of the original ones...

Have a great trip!

That sounds like a lot of fun - I think those dolls came around about 10 years or so ago - when the books were getting popular. Cheers! Have a great trip!

I have some friends, who have daughters who are into the American Dolls. I don't have any little girls, so that one has passed me by. Have fun!
