A to Z Challenge: X is for...
Got some great writing done the other day! Big thanks for all the rah-rahs and support. :-)
But now for something even more personal...
X is for: X-ray.
I've only had ONE broken bone in my life. (Okay, technically it was two: the radius and ulna in my ONE wrist, ONE time).
Here's how:
I was a sophomore in college, living on campus and being totally stupid and irresponsible as only a sophomore living away from her parents can be. We were at a party, I had a few drinks, and suddenly wanted to climb up a friend's bunk bed because I've never been in a bunk bed before (And yes, my life has so vastly improved from that experience).
Anyhew, this wasn't your average bunk bed. It was much higher. My friend lived alone in her dorm and thought it would be cool to suspend her bed between two desks instead.
I don't really know how I got up there to be honest. The ladder didn't reach all the way to the top. So when it was time for me to come down my friends pulled out a chair for me to lightly drop down on. Brilliant idea except I was in socks so when I dropped onto the chair I slipped right off of it.
And landed in a trashcan.
(True story)
Well, luckily another friend was nearby to drive me to the ER, where I had X-rays and was put into a cast.
End of story. Well, not really the end. My boyfriend at the time was not pleased that I went to a party without him, I missed a lot of classes and had to reschedule exams, I had THE worst time trying to fend for myself with one arm and no mommy around, and my parents weren't exactly thrilled with how I broke my wrist either. Good times.
Anyhew, that's the first and last time I ever broke anything.
How about you? Have you ever broken a bone? What did you break? How old were you?

Lol, great story! You have to work that into one of your novels some day!
I've never broken a bone or had stitches or anything. Not even when I did gymnastics! So now I'm going to go knock on wood, hahaha.
No bones, only my heart. Funny story. The older I get though, the more I keep thinking about my hips.
Those are the kind of great stories that make great parents!
All bones intact thus far ...
Oh, dear. Ouch! Ah, well...that's what college is for, right? The learning experiences? ;)
LOL! Love it, I mean, ecept for the part where you actually broke the bone, but what a story. So sorry your pain was our entertainment gain.
You made me laugh and cry. And hopeful too, I mean, look how you turned out? Good, right?
(I have 4 in college right now...)
In the trashcan? What a story!
I've never broken a bone. Yet. I'm not looking forward to that!
I've never broken a bone..knock on wood! Actually, for as accident prone that I am, I've still never made it to the hospital. Lucky me!
Wow. That's some story Jennifer! I'm glad it was just a wrist and nothing else. =)
I've only had a few broken toes and one broken finger. It's amazing how much I use those things. I never realize until I can't anymore. =D
I have been in the throes of family the last two weeks and trying to go around and catch up on all your news:)
But no, no bones broken here yet--daughter broke hers and I didn't take her seriously when she said she did!
I broke my big toe when I was jumping on the trampoline in gym class. It got fixed by taping it to my other toes. No cast.
When you said jumping on the chair wearing socks, I could just feel the slip. Ouch! Sorry you got hurt and the drama that ensued, but enjoyed the way you told it. I've never broken anything and hope that remains true!

Despite being the most accident prone person ever, I have never broken a bone (touch wood). I did, however, have to have surgery to remove a massive splinter from my hand when I was 4 - I still have the scar!
Just visitng from the A-Z Challenge.
Great story! Like you I've only broken a bone once, but it wasn't anything this interesting. I just fell on the ice! I'm so clumsy it's actually amazing I haven't broken more bones through various falls. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!
I broke my cheekbone when I was in fourth grade. CHEEKBONE. I've never broken an arm or a leg...I had to break something nobody else ever breaks!
No broken bones, but I have a few stories where I should have broke a bone or two...or wound up in traction. Your story was hilarious. I'm still giggling!
Wow - and ow! The ol' broken bone story, eh? Well, I once fell during an episode of Dawson's Creek. I hurt my arm, but came back to work the next day after the X-ray, which showed nothing but a hurt wrist. Several weeks later, my arm was still giving me random pains, and I stepped in a hole coming off a different set of steps on the same trailer, and when my foot went in the hole it didn't fit right and my ankle took my full descending weight - SPRAIN! - is that even a sound effect? - and I soon had a foot and ankle roughly three times larger than normal. I was put on office duty with crutches, and dutifully made my way into the production office each day for ten hours of busy work for several straight days. More weeks pass, I get off the crutches, and while cheering on my son's wrestling match, my mother-in-law slapped my lower arm when something exciting happened, and I screamed like a little girl. Back to the doctor, who now X-Rayed much further up my arm - turns out there was a break just below the elbow on my left (and dominant) arm, and it had been there since the initial fall, INCLUDING THE TIME ON CRUTCHES! - no wonder I hated them so bad! I finally ended up having to wear this electromagnetic belt/arm band combo that promoted the bone to finally heal. But from beginning to end that all covered something like September - May. Yow!
