Monday Mavorites

Hey, everyone

You're probably wondering what a mavorite is.
Well, you should, since I made up that word. LOL

I used to do a "Friday Favorites" but since I'm blogging on Mondays now, I had to improvise. :-)

I got a recipe for grilled vegetables from author Sandra Orchard's blog which I have been making practically everyday so, thank you, Sandra!
However, I modified the recipe slightly. Instead of soy sauce, I found a new product that is made from soy but without all the sodium.

So my Monday Mavorite is:

Liquid Aminos

It tastes very similar to soy sauce and is a great source of protein too! I get mine at my local organic health food store.

Saturday night was Night in Venice in our town, which is basically a HUGE boat parade and excuse to party. Since the town gets super packed we biked to a few parties that night.
Here are some pictures from it:
the boats going down the lagoon
The kids watching the parade in beards from the neighbor's boat
Magic Mike theme

Lastly, I'm going to be going away in a bit and I was originally going to have my mom watch Sox, but now I'm having doubts that she can handle a puppy, so I'm looking into a kennel that was recommended to me by my vet. But I'm a little nervous about that too. I just want my puppy to have special care. *sigh*

That's it for me.

Anything special that goes on in your town in the summer?
Ever hear of Liquid Aminos?

Ooohhh, I am DEFINITELY going to try Liquid Aminos! Soy sauce without the sodium? Yes, please! Thanks for passing that along...I'll let you know what I think when I try it. *fingers crossed I can find it*

Good luck with boarding Sox! I know it's hard...we have to board our pups when we go out of town, but it gets easier, especially when you find just the right place for them. (Which you will!)

What a good substitute for soy sauce. I'm going to look for it the next time I go into town.

Re: Sox
You may have already done this, but no kennel will take him without the bordatella (kennel cough) vaccine, so make sure he gets right away.

This vaccine isn't always given but if you board them, the kennel demands it.

You always post the best stuff! We love soy sauce, but lately the sodium is just too much. Will definitely give this a try.

Love the party pics. How fun!

For Sox, have you looked at dogvacayDOTcom ? It's a new place where qualified people dog sit dogs in their own homes. Maybe there's someone in your area. I looked for Lucy, but sometimes she's dog aggressive. :(

Like Maria said, make sure Sox has the bordatella vaccine. Ask at your vet's office for kennel recommendations, too. Go by and check the places out in person if you have time before you make a decision. Good kennels are priceless.

I've been using Balsamic vinegar in some places where I would have used soy. It has zero sodium and adds a great flavor. No protein, though.

Going to have to try that, thanks for the tip! Saw an article about Night in Venice in the online AC Press and I thought of you. Looks like it was fun!

Have a good trip! :)

Glad you're enjoying the recipe, Jennifer! I'll have to add you're recommended substitute sauce--sounds great!
I hail from Niagara so there is always lots going on all summer, including fireworks over the falls every weekend. ;)

I haven't heard of Liquid Aminos but I'd going to look for it. I love soy sauce but the sodium is killer!

The boat parade looks like fun.

I need to check our local health food store for that.

Since my town consists of a single stop sign, one pizza place, one ice cream place, one hair salon, a gas station and doesn't even have its own post office --- Um, no. Nothing special happens here in the summer.

Unless you count sitting on the porch of the ice cream place, watching traffic at the stop sign.

Haha Mavorites?

The day seems perfect. Soothing

And hey! i wanted to have a dog too. Puppy. But i couldnt give much time. Work and stuffs. And i was skeptical if my folks would be able to catch up.

I'll have to check out liquid aminos--and find out if it has gluten. We usually use a gluten free tamari sauce in place of soy sauce.

I hope you find a good kennel. We found a great one for our dog. A former police officer runs a kennel and has a huge farm where the dogs get to run during the day, etc. Our dog loves going there.

I've never heard of liquid aminos before, but I'll see if I can find it.

I used to hate boarding our dogs. They made me feel so guilty for leaving them behind. Make sure your pooch has a shot for kennel cough before you board him.

Enjoy your getaway.

Nodding about the vaccination for Sox. The kennel won't accept them with proof of vaccination.

I hadn't heard of the soy sauce alternative either, not that we use a lot of soy. We're more likely to use herbs and spices.

Never heard of liquid amino. Or seen a boat parade. But I love the kids' beards! Hope you have fun on your trip and find a good place for Sox to chill!

I've never heard of Liquid Aminos. Is the name from amino acids, the building blocks of proteins? (Huh. I guess some of those science classes I took back in the day have stayed with me. *grin*)

Love the pics!

I use the same brand (Braggs) of Apple Cider vinegar with 'the mother'. I love natural food stores :).

Have a blessed weekend!
