Don't Judge a Recipe by its Name

Happy Monday!

Can't wait until Thanksgiving this Thursday!
I love it for TWO reasons in particular:

1) it's a no pressure holiday--

I don't have to buy gifts for anyone. I don't have to make sure the house is decorated. No cards. It's just about being grateful--and of course, the FOOD.

I'm all over that.

2) my sister-in-law ALWAYS cooks Thanksgiving.
(My gig is Christmas Eve)

Again. I'm all over that.

The only thing I have to do is show up.
Oh, and bring dessert.

*cough cough*

I happen to be bringing this recipe:

                  Pumpkin Dump Cake

Ingredients
  • 1 15 oz can Pumpkin Puree
  • 1 10 oz can Evaporated Milk
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter melted
  • 1 cup coarsely crushed graham crackers or pecans

How to Make
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Spray a 9×13 baking pan lightly with cooking/baking spray
  3. In a large bowl combine the pumpkin, evaporated milk, sugar, eggs and pumpkin pie spice. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour into your prepared pan.
  5. Sprinkle your entire box of cake mix on top, followed by your nuts or graham crackers.
  6. Pour your melted butter evenly on top. (I was told NOT to melt it, cut it up and sprinkle on top)
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until center is set and edges are lightly browned.

Yeah, I know, couldn't they have called it something else?
Like Pumpkin Oh-So-Good Cake? or Pumpkin Hurry Up and Get in My Belly Cake?

Trust me. Don't judge this cake by its name
THIS IS SO Fantastic!!!!
I'm making homemade whipped cream to go with it.

Whatever you're making or eating, have a Happy THANKSGIVING!!

I love dump cakes. Recipes I followed also have you cut the butter in pieces and sprinkle over the cake instead of melting the butter.

Might have to give this cake a try. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

I've never heard of a "dump cake" -- sounds delicious! And easy enough that even I might be able to manage one.

I've never heard of dump cake, either. This sounds wonderful. I might just have to give it a try someday, but not Thursday. I promised my son he could bring dessert. I'll miss the pumpkin pie, but I'll have a happy son. That's what matters!

Never heard of dump cakes either, but some of mine have turned out dumpy after I had to wrestle them out of the cake pan. I'm having Thanksgiving here in Mexico, my first, but am having a hard time finding some ingredients, like self-rising cornmeal, sage, cranberry sauce, or even fresh cranberries to make my own, and pumpkin pie in a can. And I'm resisting the urge to put some kind of chile pepper on or in the bird.

Oh it sounds tasty. I love the easy stuff. I'm experimenting this year and making a cranberry mousse to add to the dessert area. It's quick and easy too. Hopefully it will taste good as well.

Happy Thanksgiving.

A Rose--er pumpkin cake--by any other name will still taste pretty darn great with those ingredients, I think! Thanks for the recipe! Yum.

Haha-I was just laughing about the name. I won't judge. lol

Yum! I've been eating pretty healthy lately. I'm afraid I'm going to make myself sick on stuffing and pumpkin pie. :) Everything in moderation, right?

Sounds yummy to me, but the holiday-hosting baton has been passed on to the next generation, so I don't even prepare the desserts anymore. My only "job" is to play with the grandchildren while somebody else does all the work. (oh, darn)

I don't think I've ever had dump cake, but man it sounds great!!!

I love Thanksgiving for the same reasons you do. It's the best!

Yum! That cake sounds so good, even if the name needs a spruce-up. :) Happy Thanksgiving, Jennifer!

I've made my share of dump cakes in the past. My guys would like this version, so I'll have to make it for them in the near future. Happy Thanksgiving!
